Children and young people exposed to sexual exploitation will continue to receive specialist support after the PCC extends funding.
PCC John Campion was pleased to recommission the child sexual exploitation (CSE) service, which provide invaluable support to those affected by this awful crime. This service will be delivered by the West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC).
Tackling CSE, and the wider context of child criminal exploitation, are priorities for the Commissioner and are key parts of his role, as he works to protect the most vulnerable in our communities and prevent exploitation from ever taking place. However, where it has, making sure the right support is available.
The services available will provide direct support to children and young people, as well as their families, under the age of 18, or 24 for those individuals with additional needs. An early intervention and prevention programme across Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Shropshire will also be available.
PCC John Campion said: “It is so important that young people are receiving all the support they can get. A key part of this project is to identify those at risk of CSE and educate them on the signs before it’s too late. However, it’s also about giving victims the support to help them cope and recover.
“A key reason WMRSASC was chosen to deliver this important service is because, as the specialist sexual violence organisation in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, they already have a vast amount of experience in this area of work. I look forward to working with them and other partners to continue the work in protecting the children and young people in our communities.”
