A further uplift in officer numbers is being welcomed by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.
93 additional officers for West Mercia, were announced by the Government today, as the first tranche of the Prime Ministers offer to increase policing numbers by 20,000*. These additional officers, will be in addition to the 215 previously announced by the PCC, who are currently being recruited and trained.
Commissioner John Campion said “Our communities want to see visible policing, and this excellent news from the Government, shows that this vision is shared locally and nationally. Recruitment in West Mercia is already at record levels, and following my recent investment, by the end of the year the force will be at our highest officer numbers since 2012. I look forward to welcoming the additional officers, as this will have an even greater impact on making our communities safer.”

*The first tranche, to recruit 6000 officers nationally, covers around 30% of the Prime Ministers previous offer to recruit 20,000 additional officers. Whilst total future numbers for West Mercia are not yet known, we anticipate this to be in the region of 300-360 additional officers.
