FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – INFORMATION REQUEST
Request
In light of the recent criticism of the Police in the National press and the comments made by the Prime Minister in Parliament, I would like to know if the Crime Commissioner’s staff are subject to vetting and DBS checks? If they are, does Mr Campion have a current DBS
check?
Response
Please see the below response to your request.
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is not able to disclose personal
information relating to specific individuals.
We can, however, confirm that to gain (and maintain) employment within the Office of the
PCC any individual must achieve and maintain a level of vetting that is appropriate to the
role they hold.
There are required criteria for any individual to stand as a PCC candidate, which are set out
by the Electoral Commission. However as elected officials there is no lawful requirement for
Police and Crime Commissioners to be vetted.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write to the
Information Compliance Unit; Information Compliance Unit, PO Box 55, Worcester, WR3
8SP. Email: [email protected]
Yours sincerely,
FOI Officer
West Mercia PCC
