More than three quarters of residents who completed the latest perceptions survey believe West Mercia Police is dealing with crime and anti-social behaviour – an 8% rise over the past year.
In South Worcestershire, 80% of respondents to the survey ran by Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion, said they do not think crime and anti-social behaviour are problems in their local area.
To continue building on this progress, West Mercia Police launched first-of-a-kind Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Teams, thanks to funding from PCC John Campion.
Since July, South Worcestershire’s team has been working in the heart of the community tackling high-impact issues like anti-social behaviour.
Other key findings from the South Worcestershire survey include:
- 88% of people are confident they could access the police in an emergency.
- 77% believe West Mercia Police understands issues in their community, the highest in West Mercia.
- 59% feel the police were doing either an excellent or good job, rising by 5% since the last perceptions survey across West Mercia.
Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I welcome the latest figures that show the majority of residents in South Worcestershire feel crime and anti-social behaviour are not problems in their area. However, I want this figure to continue rising with 85% of respondents in Herefordshire saying they are not issues.
“It’s important progress continues following record levels of funding into frontline policing. I have taken action delivering on calls for more police officers with numbers now at their highest in West Mercia’s history, along with the launch of Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Teams, it’s vital all communities feel the benefits of my investment.”
