The Police and Crime Commissioner is supporting the delivery of a new integrated drug and alcohol specialist treatment service in Worcestershire.
National charity, Cranstoun, has been successful in their bid to deliver this new service. It will provide support and treatment to those adults, young people and families in Worcestershire affected by problems with drugs and alcohol. The service is being commissioned by the Commissioner, and is also supported by Worcestershire County Council.
The primary purpose of the new service is to reduce drug and alcohol related harm and promote recovery. Worcestershire County Council spends £4 million annually on this as part of a mandated Public Health service.
Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I am pleased to be working with both Worcestershire County Council and Cranstoun again to tackle another key area that affects communities. This new service will provide individuals affected by drug and alcohol use with the support they need to recover, diverting them away from criminality.”
Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Health and Well-Being at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are delighted to continue our working relationship with West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver this new service. It has a real focus on preventing drug and alcohol related harm and promoting recovery. It’s really important for people in Worcestershire to have a dedicated service that they access if they need this support. ”
Annie Steele, Director of Operations for Cranstoun, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to continue delivering the drug and alcohol services across Worcestershire. We are excited to be working closely with partnerships at district and county level to prevent and reduce the harm caused by drug and alcohol use. Our work with adults and young people encourages positive change to give everyone the opportunity to live healthy, safe and happy lives.”
The contract will continue to deliver a range of prevention and treatments in partnership with local NHS and other voluntary sector providers.
The service will focus on prevention and treatments for problems associated with drugs and alcohol, reducing harm and continuing to make the service available in different locations across Worcestershire. This will be achieved by working together in partnership with service users and stakeholders in the wider health and care system.
