The local safer neighbourhood policing team in Wyre Forest have successfully been granted over £1,000 from PCC John Campions Commissioners Community Fund. This money is set to empower the local women and girls will self-defence classes being offered for local residents in Stourport, Bewdley and Kidderminster. The hour long sessions will cover personal safety awareness and simple but effective self-defence techniques to hopefully enhance their confidence when out and about.
PCC John Campion said “Understandably the community is concerned about the safety of women and girls. I whole heartedly support this activity to empower and support 240 women in the area. Obviously, there is a need to address those who think it is acceptable to perpetrate this behaviour, but in the meantime I hope this helps support women and girls to ensure more not only are safe but feel safe.
“I am dedicated to reassuring the community of West Mercia through empowerment and ensure appropriate support services are available. Being able to offer activities such as this should see us working towards to the women and girls of Worcestershire having extra confidence to continue going about their daily lives.”
