Following its success over the past two years with hundreds of handmade poppies being displayed across West Mercia, the PCC is calling on communities to come together again and pin their poppy!
In the lead up to Remembrance Day, Unknown Tommy statues are now standing proudly across West Mercia at Malinsgate, Malvern, Monkmoor, Hereford, Kidderminster police stations and West Mercia Police’s Headquarters at Hindlip.
Before Monday 4 November, local communities can create poppies to display on their local statues which will then come together for a wreath laying ceremony at police HQ to honour former and serving police officers and members of the armed forces on Remembrance Day.
West Mercia Police has a proud history of recognising the role ex-servicemen and women, who are currently serving in the force, play to keep communities safe. The PCC also funds Remember Veterans to the tune of £28,000 with the scheme helping ex-service personnel reintegrate back into civilian life and prevents them from coming into contact with the criminal justice system.
PCC John Campion said: “Over the past two years, I have been so proud and humbled to see the brilliant response to my Pin Your Poppy project.
“The mission from the outset was to bring communities together whilst recognising the heroic actions of all those who are serving or have served in our armed forces.
“I know the communities of West Mercia will continue to deliver on that aim so I can’t wait to see what creative poppies they create.”
