Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is commitment to ensure that police custody is safe, and has welcomed eight new volunteers to his independent custody visitor scheme.
The Commissioner operates an Independent Custody Visitor programme across West Mercia. Where volunteers visit police custody suites to ensure everything is meeting the expected standards. This includes checking on the welfare of detainees and that police officers and staff are following all the correct legal protocols.
The new volunteers will operate in the following locations:
- Four in Shropshire
- One in Hereford
- One in North Worcester
- Two in South Worcester
PCC John Campion said “We have a strong Independent Custody Visitor scheme in West Mercia and I welcome these eight new volunteers to work with us, maintaining public confidence in the service they receive throughout West Mercia.
“The volunteers visits are crucial to the safety of those held in custody and for providing transparency and confidence in policing. They are highly valued and I am always grateful for their tireless contribution.”
