PCC John Campion has expressed deep concern for victims of crime after West Mercia is hit with the first cut, in recent times, to victim service funding

“I have long stood for victim rights and ensuring they have the right support in order to cope and recover from the harm that have suffered. Whilst the centrally funded grant, for victim services, is welcomed it is less than we have received in previous years and there is once again no consideration for the impact of National Insurance increases or inflationary costs.

“I will continue to do what I can, in terms of continuing to provide additional money to top up the grant, however the news of a cut is disappointing to hear given the ongoing financial pressures we are facing.

“I am deeply concerned that this reduction will impact the services we have in West Mercia which, in turn, will impact victim, survivors and witnesses who so desperately need support. I continue to urge the government to consider funding allocations and how, given the financial pressures we are facing, vital victim services can continue providing support to victims of the most horrendous of crimes.”
