Volunteers are sought to help the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner maintain the rights of those in custody and build confidence in policing.
The commissioner is seeking trustworthy and emphatic people from all walks of life to join the Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) scheme. The ICV’s will join a panel of volunteers who regularly visit custody suites ensuring the welfare of detainees.
PCC John Campion said “It’s important that those in custody are treated fairly and with respect. It can be a very vulnerable time and we need people with the right people skills and professionalism to play this important role. By volunteering you will be supporting me to scrutinise West Mercia Police, ensuring public confidence in the ways in which they operate. I am keen to build on this successful scheme and to hear from people from all background’s who can represent West Mercia’s communities.”
Expressions of interest are sought from volunteers. particularly in Shropshire and Telford, ahead of a recruitment drive in the new year.
