Focused on ensuring West Mercia Police is delivering on the public’s priorities, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion will be holding his latest performance meeting with the force’s Chief Constable, Richard Cooper.
As part of a formal Assurance and Accountability meeting on Wednesday 27 November, the PCC will be reviewing the challenges impacting policing in Shropshire.
This will include scrutiny of the current performance metrics in relation to key crime outcomes and emergency response times, with a focus on how the force will improve the service communities in Shropshire receive, now and in the future.
The PCC is committed to ‘Cutting crime’, as set out in his police and crime plan. With crime falling across West Mercia over the past 12 months, the PCC will be asking the Chief Constable to set out his assessment of the reduction and how the force will sustain this downward trajectory.
Updates will be provided on the National Priorities for Policing and the activity being conducted around areas such as Homicide, Serious Violence, Drugs/County Lines, Neighbourhood Crime, Satisfaction and Cybercrime.
The meeting will also cover the policing response to anti-social behaviour, a top policing concern for local communities, following a national inspection from HMICFRS.
PCC John Campion said: “As your voice in policing, I am committed to ensuring you get the high level of service you and I expect from West Mercia Police.
“My latest meeting with the Chief Constable will allow me to further understand the action the force is taking to ensure you are safe and feel safe in your community.
“This will also be an opportunity for the Chief to detail what improvements have been made in recent months around the force’s performance and what is being done to ensure they continue.”
