PCC John Campion has welcomed the Government’s announcement to ‘Level Up’ areas across the country, including West Mercia, with a cash injection of £2.1 billion.
In Herefordshire, Hereford City and the Oxford Arms will benefit from more than £20 million to spark transformational change following successful Round 2 bids to the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Plans for funding in Hereford City will deliver a transport package to improve trains in the region giving customers a better experience while reducing traffic on the roads.
The Oxford Arms in Kington has been awarded money to create a new community hub to host musical performances, community meetings and accommodation.
PCC John Campion said: “I am delighted to see the Government continuing to deliver on its commitment to Level Up. More than £80 million will be coming to West Mercia to breathe new life into our local communities by boosting a range of regeneration and cultural projects.
“As set out in my Safer West Mercia Plan, I am committed to building safer communities. An important element of these projects is making sure they are places where you are safe and feel safe. I look forward to working closely with Herefordshire Council, partners and West Mercia Police to deliver on this.”
