PCC John Campion has welcomed the Government’s announcement to ‘Level Up’ areas across the country, including West Mercia, with a cash injection of £2.1 billion.
In Telford and Shrewsbury, they will benefit from more than £38 million to spark transformational change following successful Round 2 bids to the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Plans for funding in Telford will deliver two inter-related projects that will transform the Borough’s cultural and educational offer and support regeneration of Telford, achieved through: Remodelling and expansion of The Place Theatre and Relocation and expansion of Telford College’s Sixth Form.
In Shrewsbury, £18 million will help to deliver the Big Town Plan by regenerating brownfield land and improving public transport.
PCC John Campion said: “I am delighted to see the Government continuing to deliver on its commitment to Level Up. More than £80 million will be coming to West Mercia to breathe new life into our local communities by boosting a range of regeneration and cultural projects.
“As set out in my Safer West Mercia Plan, I am committed to building safer communities. An important element of these projects is making sure they are places where you are safe and feel safe. I look forward to working closely with local authorities, partners and West Mercia Police to deliver on this.”
