PCC John Campion has welcomed the move from Government to introduce clear tiers of restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Following a surge of Covid-19 cases across the UK and in some parts of West Mercia, the Government move to tighten restrictions in some areas of the UK, with a clear tier system to be put in place. This comes as the NHS plan for the extra pressures that inevitably come in the winter months in addition to the threat from Covid-19. The Government also announced £466,243 of extra funding to support more visible policing in West Mercia to ensure they can continue to play their part in the fight against the virus.
PCC John Campion said, “Some parts of the UK and West Mercia have seen a worrying increase in Covid-19 cases. I welcome the Government announcement that further restrictions introducing clear tiers, to combat the spread of the virus, will begin tomorrow.
“It’s been encouraging to see, over the last six months, that the majority of people in our area have done the right thing and adhered to the restrictions set out by Government. West Mercia Police has been very clear that the minority that flout the restrictions will be on the receiving end of enforcement activity, and I fully support the stance that West Mercia Police have taken. We need to act together as a community in response to the threat this virus presents.
“As we move into autumn, we will see the usual winter pressures, and it is vital that we reduce the spread of Covid-19 to prevent extra demand on public services. We must all act now, make sure we adhere to the restrictions relevant to our locality, stop the spread, and protect our communities and the NHS.”
