With alleviating pressure on prison capacity across the county, the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) has urged Chief Constables to think about “pausing non-priority arrests to combat the growing issue.
PCC John Campion has said: “It is concerning to see the national landscape of prison capacity and the action being taken to combat this issue.
“However, West Mercia is not facing the same capacity issues as other forces across the country, and I have spoken with the Chief Constable of West Mercia Police who has assured me criminals will continue to be arrested.
“All crime is a priority, and I am satisfied West Mercia Police is continuing to provide a high-quality service to the public that both they and I expect.”
