Veterans will continue to get specialist support with investment from the Police and Crime Commissioner.
PCC John Campion has invested £25,000 in the Remember Veterans scheme, helping ex –service personnel integrate into civilian life and prevent them from coming into contact with the criminal justice system.
The scheme which the PCC first launched in 2016, will be delivered by the charity YSS and is being extended to mark VE day. It will continue to provide face to face support, in a way that is designed for veteran’s specific needs.
Commissioner John Campion said “Ex-service personnel make up a disproportionate amount of the prison population and it is important to address this. My investment will provide correct signposting and access leading to the right kind of support to those who need it at the right time. Ultimately this will help to prevent future harm in our communities.”
YSS Operations Director, David Andrewartha said “Over the past 5 years YSS have been supporting veterans who are experiencing life challenges such as mental health, homelessness, drug and alcohol addictions and debt. We offer one to one practical and emotional support to overcome these barriers, enabling the veteran to build their confidence, resilience and community networks. We are extremely proud to be working alongside the PCC on this initiative and will continue to raise awareness of veterans at the boards and forums that we attend to ensure that the best support is being provided”
