Redditch based police officers will be relocating to a temporary police station in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
Whilst the brand-new Redditch police and fire combined hub is being built on Middle House Lane, officers will be moving to the shopping centre in October to ensure visibility is maintained in the community and policing can be kept at the heart of Redditch.
PCC John Campion, as custodian of the police estate, has worked with West Mercia Police to ensure the needs of the community are met, and that the temporary station has the facilities officers and staff need to carry out their roles effectively.
Whilst the temporary station won’t have a front counter, members of the public will still be able to contact their local officers by making appointments or using the new digital kiosks that will be placed outside. People can also report crimes and contact their local policing team via the West Mercia Police website. News and information, from the local policing team, can also be received through Neighbourhood Matters.
PCC John Campion said: “As the new station is being built, I was keen to identify a location that maintained the presence of officers in the heart of Redditch, understanding how important this is to communities. I hope this news brings reassurance that police officers will remain visible and accessible to the public ahead of the move to the new joint hub.”
Superintendent Mel Paley, North Worcestershire LPA Commander, said: “It’s vital we maintain our visible policing presence in Redditch town centre while our new shared hub is being built.
“This temporary station has the facilities officers and staff need to enable us to continue this important role in our community.”
Building contractor Speller Metcalfe, who are also delivering the joint police and fire hub, are delivering the relocation.
